Price
Above, below or well outside the local range for the same job and home size.
Permit
Whether the permit most places require is on the quote.
Size
Oversized systems short-cycle; we flag capacity far above what the home needs.
Efficiency
Below the DOE minimum for your region, or a rating that doesn't match the model.
Refrigerant
New systems use A2L refrigerants; R-410A offered as new must be pre-2025 stock.
Tax credit
The federal 25C credit ended for 2026 installs. Quotes still count it.
Transparency
Missing model numbers, labor warranty or line items.
License
The contractor's license, checked against the state registry where it's public.
Rebates and financing

Does my quote get uploaded?
No. It is read and checked in your browser. You can turn off Wi-Fi and mobile data after the page loads and the check still works.
What if I only have a paper quote?
Take a photo. Chrome on a computer reads it with its built-in model; elsewhere a text reader runs on your device. Or type the total, the job and the size by hand.
How accurate is the verdict?
It compares your total with the local price range for the same job and home size. Where we have few local prices it says so and uses softer words. It is a check, not a quote.
Can a contractor pay to look better?
No. The verdict only looks at the numbers and public rules. Contractors can't buy a better result, and we never publish verdicts about named companies.
