Licensing and training in Connecticut

Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Occupational and Professional Licensing (Heating, Piping, Cooling and Sheet Metal Work Board) licenses HVAC contractors across Connecticut; the relevant classes are S-1/S-2 unlimited heating, piping and cooling; S-3/S-4 limited heating; D-1/D-2 unlimited warm air, AC and refrigeration; D-3/D-4 limited.

Refrigerant work also needs EPA Section 608 certification. BLS lists a postsecondary nondegree award, usually a certificate from a trade school or community college program, as the typical way in, followed by long-term on-the-job training, which BLS defines as more than 12 months.
