What changed in 2026
The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit (25C) ended for equipment placed in service after December 31, 2025. What remains are state-run federal rebates where a state has launched them, utility rebates and manufacturer promotions. In June 2026 the Department of Energy renamed the federal programs (HEAR is now the High-Efficiency Electric Home Rebate, HEEHR) and stopped paying for switching from gas, oil or propane to a heat pump: HEEHR heat pump rebates now cover replacing electric equipment, or new construction. Savings-based HOMES rebates can still help a home that heats with gas.
Federal rebates run by the state
Delaware has announced its federally funded home energy rebates but they are not open yet.
States are reworking their programs to the June 2026 federal rules, so a program listed here may have paused or changed what it pays for. Confirm with the state before you count on a rebate.
Income limits by county
The income-based rebates use area median income. These are HUD's 80% limits for a family of four; 150% is almost twice as high.
